The following key events happened in the life of CHEOPS so far:


2 Nov 2004: Phase-A result documentation delivered to ESO
May 2003: Contract signed with ESO for an 18-month phase-A study
Jan 2003: Heidelberg-lead project renamed to CHEOPS
Sep 2002: "Selection" review at ESO Garching, afterwards decision to conduct 2 competetive phase-A studies of 18 months. Both studies supported by ESO with 135,000€ each.
Feb 2002: Proposal submitted to ESO in response to call. 2nd proposal submitted by a French-lead consortium.
Dec 2001: Call by ESO for preliminary proposals for a "Planet Finder" as 2nd-generation VLT instrument to eventually replace the existing AO-system NAOS.
