Molecular cloud evolution and star formation in gravitationally unstable disk galaxies
Andi Burkert USM, Munich, DE
Gravitational disk instabiliy is very efficient in regulating the structure, kinematics and star formation properties of galactic disks. I will discuss how gravitational disk instability self-regulates in combination with stellar feedback leading to a self-organised structure that can explain consistently the properties and star formation of both high-redshift young, clumpy, gas-rich galactic disks as well as evolved, low-redshift Milky Way type galaxies as well as the turbulent velocites of the gas components.
