A spectroscopic census of the stellar content of high-mass star-forming regions
Arjan Bik Max-Planck-Institut für Astronomie, Heidelberg, Germany
The formation and early evolution of high-mass stars happens in
clustered and highly complex environments, where the forming stars
and the molecular cloud are mutually interacting. To study the stellar
population of high-mass star-forming regions, we have started a program
aiming at a spectroscopic classification of all the high- and
intermediate mass cluster members of high-mass star clusters as well as to study the interaction between the stars and
their environment.
I will present the results of this survey obtained with SINFONI at the VLT and LUCIFER at the LBT. Supporting multi-wavelength data (mid-infrared, sub-mm and radio) are added to obtain a complete picture of the regions. The first results show that properties like distance and ages of the clusters can be derived. Additionally, the multi-wavelength datasets of the regions and their environment result in a detailed assessment of the formation history of the targeted regions.
