High Resolution mm-observations of the Double Core in the Isolated Dark
Globule CB17

Nearby isolated molecular cloud cores are excellent testbeds to study theories of low-mass star formation. But a closer look, in particular with interferometric measurements, reveals that many of even the simplest-looking star-forming cores break up into multiple sub-cores. I will present new interferometric molecular line observations of HCO+, CS, and N2H+ of the isolated Bok globule CB17. In combination with Spitzer results, the data show that the core of this globule, previously thought to be a single prestellar core, breaks up into two sub-cores with different evolutionary stages (Class I and a prestellar core). We use the new high-resolution molecular line data to analyse the morphology and kinematics of the two sources and their common envelope as well as to understand the physical relation between the two different sub-cores. | |
