MVSem: Protosterne und Planeten - Protostars and Planets

Master seminar in winter term 2023/2024, 2SWS

Lecturers: Henrik Beuther & Giulia Perotti (beuther/perotti at mpia.de)

Tuesday 9:15AM, Physikalisches Institut, Philosophenweg 12, kleiner Hoersaal
First seminar October 17th, 2023

This is a mandatory advanced seminar for master students ("Masterpflichtseminar', MVSem) on selected topics in the field of star formation, protostars and planets

Credit points (6CPs):
4 CPs for giving a presentation and attending the seminar,
2 CPs for a written report of the presentation.
Both will be graded.

This seminar is meant to  deepen and focus on various aspects important in star and planet formation. The seminar is based on the recent conference and publication
Protostars and Planets VII. It will be held in english.
--> More details are given in the first seminar. No pre-registration is needed.

Potential seminar topics:

- Initial conditions for star formation: A physical description of the filamentary ISM (link)
- The life and times of giant molecular clouds (link)
- Magnetic fields in star formation: From clouds to cores (link)
- From Bubbles and filaments to cores and disks: Gas gathering and growth of structure leading to the formation of solar systems (link)
- The solar neighborhood in the age of Gaia (link)
- Accretion variability as a guide to stellar mass assembly (link)
