Clues to the Outflow Acceleration Mechanism from ALMA Observations of the L1448 Archetype

Bipolar outflows represent a main ingredient of the physics of star formation. Despite years of research, no consensus exists on the mechanism of outflow acceleration. Highly collimated jets, wide-angle winds, or a combination of both have been proposed, but observations have remained inconclusive. In this contribution, I will present new ALMA observations of some of the youngest outflows known, including the archetype L1448. These observations have started to solve the outflow mystery by revealing how a jet interacts with its surrounding cloud. | |
