Cores and Collapse: Theories

Patrick Hennebelle
Ecole normale superieure - Observatoire de Paris, Paris, France
It is during the collapse of molecular cores that fragmentation in binaries or small clusters happens as well as disk formation and outflow launching. For this reason, collapse has received considerable attention over the last decades. During the talk, I will first review the various types of supports which resist the gravitational contraction. Then, I will discuss the analytical solutions and numerical simulations which have attempted to describe the envelope as well as the inner part, first of an unmagnetized core and second of a magnetized one. In particular, I will emphasize the drastic impact that a supercritical magnetic field has on the disk formation, the fragmentation and the launching of outflows. I will also discuss the influence of non-ideal mhd effects namely ambipolar diffusion and ohmic dissipation.
