The ultimate fate of B68 and the origin and evolution of globules in the Pipe nebula

Andreas Burkert

I plan to discuss a scenario where stable clumps in low-mass star forming regions like the Pipe nebula result from a bottom-up formation scenario that is dominated by clump interactions and mergers. I will demonstrate that this scenario can explain the structure of some well studied clumps like B68 as well as the clump mass spectrum. This scenario is in contrast to the well studied top-down scenario where clumps form by turbulent fragmentation which in most cases appears to result in gravitationally unstable objects.
