Radiation hydrodynamical simulations of the earliest stages of low-mass star formation

Matthew Bate

I will present results following the collapse of molecular cloud cores to form low-mass protostellar objects. The calculations are performed using a radiation hydrodynamics SPH code and follow the formation of the first hydrostatic core, its accretion, dynamical rotational instabilities, collapse to form the stellar core, and the formation of a massive protostellar disc. These earliest stages of star formation may be observable for the first time using ALMA.
