Connecting the properties of disks to the properies of their parent cores

I present an extremely simple model of a collapsing core forming a single star+disk, and show how the measured properties of the disk at 1 Myr (accretion rate, disk mass, dust crystallinity) depend on core properties such as effective sound speed in the core and its rotation rate. I show that the model predictions for disks are reasonably well reproduced by observations, and I argue that the reason for this is the relative robustness of the underlying physics of rotating collapsing objects. I therefore argue that, in spite of the enormous simplicity, there is likely an underlying truth to this picture which also holds in the more complex models involving core fragmentation.
