Malcolm Longair, University of Cambridge, United Kingdom
Yuri Lyubarsky, Ben-Gurion University, Israel

Assistents:

Christoph Deil, Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics
Victor Zabalza, Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics

When & where:
The 8th Heidelberg Summer School took place September 9-13, 2013 at the "Max Planck Haus" (Max Planck House) in Heidelberg, Germany

Scope of the School:

The goals of the IMPRS Summer Schools are to:
- present an overview of the progress in major areas during the past years;
- bring together research students of various fields for discussion and exchange of ideas;
- encourage young researchers to continue research in these fields; and
- strengthen future interdisciplinary research in these areas;

The school will focus on fundamental topics in high energy astrophysics, highlighting recent observational and theoretical progress. The three primary lecture courses will cover the major radiation processes, particle acceleration mechanisms and relativistic magnetohydrodynamics, and discuss their relevance for our understanding of astrophysical objects such as supernova remnants, pulsar wind nebulae and active galactic nuclei. Highlight lectures by prominent experts on specific topics will complement the program.
