This interactive shows the distribution of neutral hydrogen as traced by Lyman Alpha tomography via a Wiener Filtering technique. Over 350 background sources with absorption signatures were used to infer the three dimension distribution of the intergalactic medium at megaparsec scales. Note the large void structure at z~2.35 and massive supercluster-like structure at z~2.45.

Control
  • LMB: Rotate the camera around the current point-of-interest
  • MMB/wheel: Change the distance to the current point-of-interest
  • RMB: Move the camera parallel to the viewing plane

In the config panel, you can change a couple of display parameters to highlight certain features and display coeval galaxy samples. The transfer function consists of 4 thin Gaussians whose position and opacity (alpha) can be adjusted individually.
