Initial Conditions for the Origin of dense super star clusters

Hans Zinnecker

The formation of dense super star clusters like R136 in the LMC is an unsolved problem in star formation, not only occurring in present day starbursts but also relevant for the origin of globular clusters in the early universe. Cloud-cloud collisions have been suggested as one of the dynamical mechanisms to form these heavily bound clusters. We discuss the initial conditions needed to form such dissipative structures and the evolution (cooling) of the ensuing gravitationally trapped HII regions which may lead to second generation star formation in progenitors of globular clusters.
