Star Formation in HII region
Kshitiz Mallick TIFR, Mumbai, IN
To study the process of star formation, and specifically the high-mass star formation and their effect on the surroundings, a detailed study of template HII regions is required. A highly resolved multiwavelength study is usually needed to investigate various processes. In this respect, we present such a study of a nearby high-mass star-forming region W40 (~500 pc). After Orion, this is one of the closest high-mass star forming regions, and thus presents a good template for carrying out studies in which various features can be well-resolved. Seen in mid-infrared as a bipolar nebula, it sits at the junction of parsec-scale filaments, and harbours a cluster of high-mass stars in its central region. We have carried out a study of this region in infrared (near- to far-), radio, and narrow-band H2 2.12 micron to decipher the likely star-formation scenario, and present the same.
