Abstract:
During the phases of planet formation, particles grow from very small scales to planetesimals. In this process at miscellaneous moments particles of different sizes can collide resulting in partial fragmentation of the larger body. Using a Monte-Carlo code we simulated the ejection of fragments in these small impactor - large target collisions focussing on how many of them can be recaptured by the target in secondary collisions. We found that the amount of reaccreted particles is highly dependent on a lot of parameters but generally benefits from high impact velocities ( = high gas velocities) and a large size difference between target and impactor. Reaccretion might be beneficial for grow especially in the context of the so called bouncing barrier at mm sizes. These small particles can be sweeped up by large bodys even if the impact velocities exceed the fragmentation threshold. Further investigations on the exact reaccretion efficiency especially at this barrier will be carried out in the future in theoretical as well as in experimental studies.
