The Dependence of Stellar Properties on Metallicity

Bate, Matthew (University of Exeter, UK)

Abstract:
We report the results from a series of radiation hydrodynamical simulations of star cluster formation in which the metallicity of the molecular gas is varied from 1/100 to 3 times solar. The properties of the resulting stellar populations are compared to determine how the statistical properties of stars and brown dwarfs (particularly the initial mass function and multiplicity) depend on metallicity. We find that these properties are highly insensitive to variations in the metallicity.
