Demographics of Exoplanetary Systems

The 3rd Advanced School on Exoplanetary Science will be held in Vietri sul Mare (Salerno), Italy from 27 to 31 May, 2019. The School - taking place close to the enchanting Amalfi Coast - is aimed to provide a comprehensive, state-of-the-art picture of a variety of relevant aspects of the fast-developing, highly interdisciplinary field of Exoplanet research. The Lecture topics of the 3rd edition of the School will be focused on the exoplanet demographics and unveiling planet formation and evolution. The Lectures will be delivered by five senior researchers to an audience of graduate students, Ph.D. students and young post-docs.

The Lecture Notes of the 3rd Advanced School on Exoplanetary Science will be published by Springer in its Astrophysics and Space Science Library series. A copy of the book will be sent to each participant.

The School is open to underdraduated, graduate students and young Post-doc researchers. The registration fee is € 350 (Euro), and includes a copy of the Proceedings, conference kit, coffee breaks and social dinner.

A limited number of grants, partially covering the accommodation and/or the registration fee, are available. Social events

Wednesday, May 29 - Tour of the Amalfi coast and social dinner (free). Individuals who wish to bring partners or family members to the tour and the conference dinner need to pay 70 € per person.
Sunday, May 26 - Visit of Paestum archeological site. From 9:00am to 5:00pm. Cost: 40 €. The cost includes the transfer from the hotel to Paestum (and vice versa), the entrance ticket, and a professional guide. If you are interested to participate, please, contact the organisers (ases3@mpia.de).
Saturday, June 1 - Hiking on the Path of the Gods. From 9:00am to 6:00pm. Transfer from the hotel to Agerola (starting point of the trail) - hiking on the path of the Gods from Agerola to Nocelle (roughly 3 hr) - going downstairs to Positano - visit of Positano and swimming - return to Salerno by ferry. Cost: 35 €. The cost includes the transfer from the hotel to Agerola and the price of the ticket of the ferry. If you are interested to participate, please, contact the organisers (ases3@mpia.de).

The Lloyd’s Baia Hotel is very close to Vietri sul Mare, a village that is considered as the “first pearl” in the Amalfi Coast. The hotel’s location is very strategic in that it allows to reach the centre of Salerno in just a few minutes and to visit the surrounding tourist attractions of the Amalfi Coast.

The arranged price (VAT included) per person per night, in shared triple room is € 50,00.

The accommodation includes breakfast and the access to the gym and beach. The Hotel offers a shuttle service to its guests for both arrivals and departures.

Accommodation form

Lunch / Dinner

If you want, you can have lunch and dinner at the hotel. Prices are 25 € and 30 € for lunch and dinner, respectively, with the possibility to choose dishes from a restricted menu. If you prefer this solution, you have to notify it, at least one day in advance, at the hotel reception or fill in the appropriate entries in the Accommodation form.

Otherwise you can easily reach the center of Vietri sul Mare, which is only a 5 minute walk away. In Vietri sul Mare, you will have a wide choice of restaurants and bars with various price ranges. Based on the proximity and judgments read on Tripadvosor, we recommend the following eating places: Pane e Panorama, Ristorante Pizzeria Da Giufé, Risto Sud Est, Il Principe e la Civetta, Ristorante 34 da Lucia, Ristorante Sesta Stazione.

In the evening, you can also choose to go to the Vietri area near the beach (Marina di Vietri; 25 minute walk away from the Hotel), where there are other restaurants and bar lounges with music. Another good option is to go to the historical downtown of Salerno (35 minute walk away from the Hotel; 10 minutes by bus), which offers many solutions for eating or just for having drink.


Getting there

By air:

The best way to arrive at the Lloyd’s Baia Hotel is from the airport of Naples. On Sunday, May 26, shuttles will be organised from the airport of Naples to the Hotel. Please, communicate your arrival times to the organisers (ases3@mpia.de). If you want to come and leave at your time, please follow the information on the right-hand panel.

Another way to arrive in Vietri sul Mare is from the airport of Rome. Read information below.
