Exoplanet hosts

Solar Twins and Exoplanets

Another important application of our methods are stars, which are known to be spectroscopically very similar to the Sun, the so-called ‘solar twins’. It has been proposed that these 'solar twins’ may host rocky planets (e.g. Melendez et al. 2014).

The Gaia-ESO survey provides unique spectra of such stars, in particular, the solar twins in the old open cluster M67. Very accurate methods developed in the course of our project will be used to find and characterise these objects, thus providing an exciting way to search for stellar systems like our own.
