| We will discuss the conditions under which the competitve accretion process will dominate the formation of the stellar mass function. This will include examples of clouds in which competitve accretion fails to produce the 'correct' IMF. We will also contrast this highly dynamic process with the more traditional fragmentation picture, presenting observational tests for both. |
